Rachelle Bussieres
(b. 1986)
Rachelle Bussières is a French-Canadian artist based in New York, working at the intersection of photography and sculpture. Her practice explores human perception, time, and the construction of knowledge. Inspired by childhood memories of the wilderness in northeastern Québec and years spent living off the grid in northern California, she investigates how natural processes shape human experience and collective consciousness of the environment, sky, and cosmos.
Using lumen printing, an analog process with light-sensitive silver paper, Bussières documents atmospheric and ecological changes, blending scientific observation with a dreamlike, sublime interpretation. Her work engages with themes of astronomy and ecology, focusing on impermanence and the delicate balance between humanity and nature. By drawing on natural phenomena—water cycles, air quality, and light patterns—she reflects on the forces shaping our world.
